Why Angle Seat Valves for Compressed Air?

Requirement How Angle Seat Valve Meets It
High flow rate Angled body minimizes pressure drop
Fast actuation 20–50ms response time
Millions of cycles Designed for high-frequency operation
Dry air compatibility PTFE seals run without lubrication

Typical applications: Air manifolds, blow-off nozzles, pneumatic conveying, air knives, instrument air.

Seal Material Selection

Seal Best For Max Temp Runs Without Lube?
PTFE Oil-free, dry air 180°C Yes (recommended)
NBR Lubricated air (with oiler) 80°C No
FKM High-temp air (>100°C) 200°C No

Kinko recommendation: PTFE for all compressed air applications. Longer life justifies the cost.

Sizing Guide (Kv / Cv)

Port Size DN Kv (m³/h) Cv
3/8" 10 3.5 4.0
1/2" 15 6.0 7.0
3/4" 20 9.0 10.5
1" 25 14.0 16.3
1-1/2" 40 30.0 34.9
2" 50 48.0 55.8

Sizing rule: Select one size smaller than pipe diameter if pressure is above 6 bar.

Pilot Air Requirements (Critical)

Valve Size Min Pilot Pressure Recommended
DN10 – DN25 3.5 bar (50 psi) 4.5–8 bar
DN32 – DN50 4.0 bar (58 psi) 5.0–8 bar
DN65 – DN100 4.5 bar (65 psi) 5.5–8 bar

Critical note: Low pilot pressure is the #1 cause of failure. The valve will buzz or fail to open fully.

Pilot air quality: 40µm filtration, -20°C dew point, oil-free for PTFE seals.

Installation Tips

  • Orientation: Actuator upward (prevents condensation collection)

  • Condensation: Use stainless steel body; avoid mounting after compressor without drying

  • Piping: Air Dryer → Filter → Receiver → Angle Seat Valve → Distribution

Do not install directly after an air compressor. Hot, wet air damages seals.

Normally Closed vs Normally Open

Function Type Best For
Air off when idle Normally Closed (NC) 90% of distribution systems
Air on when idle Normally Open (NO) Venting, blow-off, purge

Common Problems & Solutions

Problem Likely Cause Solution
Valve fails to open Low pilot pressure Increase to 4.5–8 bar
Valve chatters Fluctuating pilot pressure Install pressure regulator
External air leak Worn stem O-ring Replace seal kit
Slow actuation Clogged silencer Clean or replace
Valve passes air when closed Debris on seat Cycle 5-10 times or replace disc

Comparison: Angle Seat vs Other Valves

Valve Type Flow Cycle Life Best For
Angle Seat High 3–5 million High-cycle, fast response
Ball Valve Highest 50k–200k Infrequent operation
Solenoid Valve Low 50 million Small lines (≤DN10)

Choose angle seat over solenoid when: Line size ≥DN15, dirty air, or visual indicator needed.
